How to record a wide selfie video with music playing

Short answerStart the music first, open a camera app that doesn’t pause other audio, widen the front view, and use headphones if you want your voice clear without echo. Test a 5-second clip before the real take.
Your music + your voice, in one take
  1. Start your song in your music app.
  2. Open your camera and switch to the front camera. Widen the view.
  3. Check the music is still playing. If it stopped, that app is taking over the audio; try a different camera app.
  4. Record a 5-second test and play it back: can you hear yourself? Is the music there?
  5. Film the real take.

Will the music be in the video?

It depends on your iPhone, iOS version, the app, and whether the music plays out loud or in headphones. Music in headphones usually isn’t recorded. Some streaming services restrict recording. And you need the rights to any music you post.

Questions

Why does my music stop when I start recording?

The camera app is taking control of the phone’s audio. Apps can be built to let other audio keep playing; not all are.

Will headphone music be recorded?

Usually not, because the microphone can’t hear it. That’s good for clean voice; add the music in editing if you have the rights.

A camera built for this
