Getting the most from a selfie stick for wide selfies
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerExtend the stick partly, not fully, for stability, hold it slightly above eye level angled down, use its Bluetooth button as the shutter, and keep the stick in line with your arm so it hides behind your hand.
Length
More length shows more scene but wobbles more. Two-thirds extended is often the sweet spot.
Hide the stick
Hold it straight out from your shoulder; the stick lines up behind your hand and arm.
Etiquette
Some venues ban sticks. Watch out for people around you.
Questions
Do they work with the back camera?
Yes, but you can’t see the frame unless the stick has a screen or you use a watch.
A camera built for this
Music Wide Selfie is an iPhone camera app: the widest front view your iPhone supports, with your music still playing.
One email when the app is ready. Nothing else.
