How to take wide selfies at night
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerFind light for your face (a shop window, streetlight or your screen’s light), hold very still, and let Night mode work if your iPhone offers it. Wide front modes and ultra wide lenses gather less light, so they need more help.
Light your face
Turn towards a light source. Screen flash (front Retina Flash) helps for close selfies.
Hold still
Brace your elbows against your body, or use a stand and timer.
Night mode
On supported iPhones, Night mode turns on automatically in low light. Keep still until it finishes.
Background
City lights look great behind you if your face is lit too.
Questions
Why are night wide selfies grainy?
Small, wide cameras collect less light. More light on your face is the best fix.
A camera built for this
Music Wide Selfie is an iPhone camera app: the widest front view your iPhone supports, with your music still playing.
